Cruise ship fire injures 3 crew members in Jeju

A fire broke out on an 85,000-ton cruise ship anchored in the port of Jeju on Wednesday, injuring three crew members who inhaled smoke, the Jeju Coast Guard said. The Coast Guard said it received a report at 8:37 a.m. that smoking was rising from the Mediterranea cruise ship, which arrived at the southern resort island earlier in the day with 3,166 people on board, including 2,430 passengers and 736 crew members. The ship's sprinklers came on, and the fire was soon extinguished after burning about 50 square meters, including the ceiling and pipes in the machine room, it said, adding three crew members received emergency treatment for smoke inhalation. The Coast Guard said it was investigating the exact cause of the fire. The ship arrived from China's Tianjin and was scheduled to depart for Fukuoka, Japan, on Wednesday afternoon.
