Danjiang Bridge to Host Running, Cycling Events in April

Taipei: Danjiang Bridge in New Taipei will host a road running event and a cycling sportive in April ahead of its official opening in May, Highway Bureau Director General Lin Fu-shan announced. The events are intended to celebrate the completion of the bridge and prepare the public for its upcoming operational phase.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lin revealed at a news conference that the road run, accommodating up to 7,000 participants, is scheduled for April 18. The event will feature 21, 10, and 5 kilometer categories, providing runners with a unique opportunity to enjoy the sunset view along the route. Registration for the running event opens on Thursday, with fees ranging from NT$600 (US$19) to NT$1,000.

Lin also shared plans for a cycling event set for April 19, which will connect key landmarks on both sides of the bridge. The cycling event will offer participants a two-way riding experience across the Danjiang Bridge, featuring a 49 kilometer challenge ride with 556 meters of climbing, and a 20 kilometer leisure ride. Registration for the cycling event starts on Friday, with entry fees ranging from NT$1,080 to NT$1,380.

To further engage the public, photography and painting competitions will be held prior to the bridge's official opening. These activities aim to enhance public awareness and appreciation of the new infrastructure.

Currently under construction, the 920-meter-long Danjiang Bridge will connect New Taipei's Bali and Tamsui districts. A ceremony is planned for May 9, and vehicle traffic is expected to commence on May 12. The bridge, spanning the mouth of the Tamsui River in northern Taiwan, is anticipated to reduce driving time between the two districts by approximately 25 minutes by eliminating the need for detours over the Guandu Bridge.
