K-pop idol band Day6 has achieved a significant milestone by topping the main songs chart of Melon, South Korea's largest music streaming service, for the first time since its debut nine years ago. "Melt Down," the lead track from its ninth EP, "Band Aid," has maintained the top position on the Top 100 chart for two consecutive days as of Wednesday. The song not only dominated Melon but also other major local charts, such as Genie and Bugs, upon its release Monday. This marks the first time the boy band has swept the charts, showcasing its growing popularity and musical prowess. K-pop idol band Day6 is seen in this photo provided by JYP Entertainment. On Melon's weekly songs chart, aespa has held the top spot for 15 consecutive weeks with "Supernova" since its May release -- the longest streak in Melon's history since its i nception in November 2004. Day6 debuted in 2015 and has steadily gained public attention over the years. Some of its older releases, such as "You Were Beautiful" (2017) and "Time of Our Life" (2019), experienced a resurgence in popularity, climbing back up the charts, while the band was on hiatus due to military service. Its latest release, "Band Aid," has been met with overwhelming success, with all eight tracks from the new EP appearing on Melon's Top 100 chart as of 9 a.m. Wednesday. "Melt Down" carries a message that when one feels frozen and overwhelmed by the challenges of the world, the love and support of another can melt away those feelings. Member Young K, who penned the lyrics, aimed to capture the feeling of overcoming difficulties through simple acts of kindness. "I tried to imagine a story of someone who endures a cold world with a warm word or a hug," he said in the band's interview with its agency, JYP Entertainment, distributed to media Monday.
