Nonthaburi, A good and hardworking policeman, who is a deputy inspector, lives a simple life. After his shift, he rides his tricycle to Nonthaburi Municipality Fresh Market to earn extra income. He has been doing this for almost 10 years. He sees it as another honorable and honest profession that does not embezzle or cheat anyone. Pol. Lt. Phonchai Hathongkam, 56, deputy inspector of the Suppression Division at Nonthaburi City Police Station, finished his shift, took off his uniform, rode his tricycle back home, changed into a white round-necked t-shirt, khaki shorts, and brought his trusted tricycle to ride in front of Nonthaburi Municipality Fresh Market. While reporters were on the scene, it was raining continuously, but Sergeant Phonchai still took passengers to the Clock Tower Pier. Pol. Lt. Phonchai said that he has been in the civil service for over 30 years, since he was a non-commissioned officer. He is currently a police lieutenant and deputy inspector of the Crime Suppression and Prevention Divi sion at Nonthaburi City Police Station. He performs general duties in cases and administrative work. He has never been investigated or committed any disciplinary offenses even once. His civil service life has been smooth and without any blemishes. As for riding a tricycle, he does not see it as a loss of honor or dignity. It is an honorable and honest profession that does not embezzle or defraud anyone. He rides a tricycle to pick up passengers from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. after finishing his shift at the police station. He earns around 200 baht, which is not much, but it is money that he earns with pride. Mr. Narong Khunphiman, 53 years old, a satay vendor at the fresh market, said that he has been a regular customer of Sergeant Pornchai since he was a police sergeant. He has been there for decades and has always called him Sergeant Pornchai. He is a good person who fights for his life. When he closes his shop, he will use the regular police sergeant from the fresh market to ride home for only 15 baht. He has only seen bad news about police officers, but Sergeant Pornchai is a good person who is kind to his friends in the market, including those who ride tricycles.
