Cebu:The East Asia Super League (EASL) is set to commence its 2026-27 season on October 3 in Cebu, the Philippines. The opening game will feature Taiwan's Taipei Fubon Braves facing off against Macau Hou Chon, as announced by the league on Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the opening doubleheader will begin with the Braves' game at 4 p.m. at SM Seaside Cebu Arena, followed by a match between the Philippines' Abra Weavers and Hong Kong Eastern.
Taiwan's P. LEAGUE+ (PLG) will be represented by three teams this season: the Taipei Fubon Braves, the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, who have been runners-up for two consecutive seasons, and the Tainan TSG GhostHawks, who are debuting in the league. The GhostHawks will play their first game against South Korea's Goyang Sono Skygunners at Fengshan Stadium in Kaohsiung on October 21. The Pilots will open their season against Japan's Ryukyu Golden Kings at Taoyuan Arena on October 28.
The EASL is a competition that unites clubs from domestic basketball leagues across the region, featuring 12 teams this season. These include three teams each from Taiwan and Japan, two from South Korea, and one each from Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, and the Philippines.
Five clubs will be making their EASL debuts this season: the Abra Weavers from the Philippines' Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, Macau Hou Chon, the Goyang Sono Skygunners, the GhostHawks, and Japan's Nagasaki Velca.
Teams are divided into three groups of four, with each club playing a total of six games in the group stage, which runs from October 2026 through February 2027. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the six-team postseason in March, where the league champion will be determined.
While the prize for the upcoming season's champion has yet to be announced, last season's winner received a prize of US$1.5 million.
