Elderly Man Fatally Struck by Bus in Taipei’s Shilin District


Taipei: An 87-year-old man lost vital signs after being hit by a right-turning bus while crossing the street in Taipei’s Shilin District around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to local authorities. The tragic incident has prompted an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.



According to Focus Taiwan, the police received a report of the accident that took place at the interaction of Zhongzheng Road and Section 5 of Yanping North Road at 4:21 p.m. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus driver, a man surnamed Chen, accidentally struck the 87-year-old Yang as he was crossing a crosswalk. The accident occurred while the bus was traveling along Zhongzheng Road and making a right turn onto Section 6 of Yanping North Road.



Yang suffered severe injuries and was found at the scene without vital signs. He was rushed to Shin Kong Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead later that evening. The police conducted a breath test on the bus driver and ruled out alcohol consumption as a factor in the accident.



Chen has been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of negligent homicide. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing, as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to this fatal incident.
