Final Verdict: Man Gets 29 Years in Jail for Sexually Abusing Minors

The Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has upheld the 28-year, eight-month prison sentence for Mao Chun-shen, who was convicted earlier this year by the Taiwan High Court for multiple offenses involving the sexual assault of minors.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Supreme Court's decision marks the final verdict in a particularly egregious case. Mao was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault by penetration, 203 counts of indecent assault, and 14 counts of filming obscene images, all against minors, spanning from 2021 to 2023. Initially, the accumulated sentences for these criminal counts totaled 1,291 years. However, the High Court determined that Mao would serve a prison term of 28 years and eight months.

The High Court concluded that Mao caused significant harm to the physical and mental health of the victims and inflicted considerable trauma on their families, justifying the severe punishment. Most of the crimes occurred while Mao was employed as a preschool teacher at the Taipei Piramide School, an institution owned by his mother. Mao was arrested in July 2023 on suspicions of sexually assaulting children at the preschool and was formally charged in August of the same year.

The first allegations against Mao were reported in June 2022. In a separate case, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted him in October 2024, accusing him of sexually assaulting 39 children and creating sexually explicit content involving minors in public spaces on 306 occasions since 2021. This second case emerged as prosecutors and police investigated the initial allegations against Mao, and it is currently still under investigation.
