SEOUL, Major South Korean shipyard HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. said Monday it has bagged a 489.6 billion-won (US$372 million) order to build three very large ammonia carriers for an Oceanian shipper. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., one of HD Korea Shipbuilding's three shipbuilding units, will construct the carriers at its shipyard in the southeastern port of Ulsan, HD Korea Shipbuilding said in a regulatory filing. The vessels will be delivered to the undisclosed shipping company by December 2027. So far this year, HD Korea Shipbuilding has obtained orders to construct 72 vessels worth $8.75 billion, or 64.8 percent of its yearly target of $13.5 billion. The ships include six liquefied natural gas carriers, 26 petrochemical carriers, 24 liquefied petroleum gas and ammonia carriers, and six very large and ultra-large crude carriers.
