Heavy Rain Advisory Issued for Northern Taiwan Amid Strong Northeasterly Winds

TAIPEI: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a heavy rain advisory for northern Taiwan as strong northeasterly seasonal winds are expected to bring significant rainfall to the region. Residents in New Taipei, Keelung, and mountainous areas in Taipei are advised to remain vigilant against heavy rain and potential landslides. According to Focus Taiwan, heavy rain is characterized by a 24-hour accumulated rainfall exceeding 80 millimeters or hourly rainfall surpassing 40 millimeters. The advisory, released at 10:10 a.m., also notes that the seasonal winds may lead to intermittent rain across northeastern and eastern regions, the Greater Taipei area, Taoyuan, and central and southeastern Taiwan. The CWA forecasts daytime temperatures in areas north of Hsinchu County, including Yilan County, to range between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius under cloudy skies. Meanwhile, western regions from Miaoli County to Tainan are expected to experience mostly sunny skies, with daytime temperatures reaching up to 25 degrees before dropping below 20 degrees after sunset. Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong has indicated that northern Taiwan will likely experience a drop in temperature starting Friday afternoon due to the approach of the strongest cold air mass of the winter. Wu warns that temperatures in low-lying areas could dip below 10 degrees in the mornings from Saturday to next Monday, with a rebound anticipated afterward.
