Heroin found in imported hot dog machine at Taoyuan airport

Taipei--Some 2.2 kg of heroin was found in imported merchandise tagged as a hot dog machine Friday at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the Aviation Police Bureau and Customs Administration said Saturday.

The heroin, worth over NT$10 million (US$324,738), was contained in six bags in the package, according to the authorities.

Police would not reveal the origin of the package.

The police tracked down the recipient of the package, a man surnamed Wu (?), in Kaohsiung.

Wu has been referred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for alleged violation of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, while the police continue to investigate the case.
