Hon Hai Achieves Record May Sales Driven by AI Demand

Taipei: Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. on Friday reported its highest sales for May on the back of robust global demand for AI applications.

According to Focus Taiwan, the iPhone assembler, which has intensified AI development to diversify its product portfolio, announced it posted NT$859.41 billion (US$27.30 billion) in consolidated sales in May. This figure marks a 39.57 percent increase year-on-year, surpassing the previous May high of NT$615.7 billion in 2025. The May sales figure also showed a 3.28 percent increase from the previous month.

In the first five months of this year, Hon Hai's consolidated sales reached NT$3.82 trillion, reflecting a 31.79 percent growth from the same period last year. Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn globally, reported that its cloud and networking division experienced strong year-on-year revenue growth in May. This was attributed to clients building up stocks in AI-related gadgets while three other divisions-computing, electronics components, and smart consumer electronics-also saw significant growth during the month.

On a month-on-month basis, Hon Hai noted robust growth in sales within the smart consumer electronics division in May, while revenue from the cloud and networking division remained relatively unchanged. However, the computing and electronics component divisions experienced a slight decline in sales compared to April.

Despite the second quarter traditionally being a slow season for the ICT industry due to product transitions, Hon Hai anticipates its revenues will continue to benefit from increased shipments of AI server racks.

In related news, Largan Precision Co., a supplier of smartphone camera lenses to Apple Inc., reported consolidated sales of NT$4.59 billion in May, which represents a 43 percent increase from a year earlier but a 14 percent decrease from the previous month. Largan indicated that its higher-margin 20 mega-pixel and above lenses accounted for 10-20 percent of total sales, while 10-20 mega-pixel lenses constituted 50-60 percent, 8 mega-pixel lenses represented less than 10 percent, and other products comprised 20-30 percent.

Largan expects sales to decline in June as clients rescheduled their orders, although the company emphasized that demand has not decreased. During the January-May period, Largan's consolidated sales grew 15 percent from a year earlier, totaling approximately NT$25.50 billion.
