Washington, Taiwan tennis ace Hsieh Su-wei and her younger sister Hsieh Yu-chieh advanced to the second round of the women's singles and women's doubles, respectively, at the 2019 Citi Open in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
Fourth seed Hsieh Su-wei, who lifted her third women's doubles trophy at Wimbledon earlier this month, defeated Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-4, 6-3 in two straight sets in the opening round to go through to the second round.
Meanwhile, the younger Hsieh and her Chinese partner You Xiaodi beat Anna Blinkova of the Czech Republic and Katerina Siniakova of Russia 2-6, 6-2 and 10-8 in the first round of the women's doubles to move through to the second round.
Hsieh Su-wei said her performance Tuesday was better than expected, as she had been having dizzy spells since she arrived in Washington on Monday. She said she hoped to be able to adapt soon to the environment and the weather there so that she could maintain her form.
