Jiraporn" leads the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) team to attend the OECD meeting in Paris to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in consumer protection. Ms. Jiraporn Sindhuphrai, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office and Chairwoman of the Consumer Protection Board, led the delegation from Thailand to attend the Ministerial-level meeting of the OECD Committee on Consumer Policy at the OECD Office in Paris, France, on 8-9 October. Representatives from 38 member countries and 67 partner countries and related organizations, totaling approximately 300 people, attended. Ms. Jiraporn shared her views on the topic of 'Consumer at the center of the digital and green transitions', presenting the important role of consumers in environmental transitions. Currently, consumers are facing the problem of lack of information to make decisions on purchasing environmentally sustainable products and services, as well as the importance of integrating work of all sectors to create a correct understanding of the env ironmental impact of products, reduce the problem of greenwashing, develop environmentally sustainable products at reasonable prices, and create awareness and understanding of environmental issues among children and youth. 'Thailand submitted a letter of intent to join the OECD in April 2024, and in July, the OECD Council, which consists of all member countries, unanimously approved the opening of an accession discussion with Thailand, which is an important step for Thailand to play a role on the world stage and elevate the country to international standards in all dimensions. This meeting is the first meeting of the Ministerial Consumer Policy Committee and the first time that Thailand was invited to join. Therefore, it is a good opportunity for Thailand to show the world its potential in working on consumer protection and to show its determination and intention to join the OECD by using experiences and approaches from discussions and exchanges of ideas between government organizations, the business sector, and consumer groups from various countries to apply to determine guidelines for elevating consumer protection in Thailand,' said Ms. Jiraporn. In addition, at this meeting, the meeting jointly endorsed the statement of the Ministers of the member countries and the accession to promote and cooperate in developing the consumer protection process that is transformed into a digital age and focuses on the importance of green consumption that promotes consumers' awareness of environmental sustainability, which will lead to international cooperation in enhancing the efficiency of the global consumer protection process. Consumers are protected and have the knowledge to deal with traders who use digital technology as a tool today. Source: Thai News Agency
