Lee Hao-yu Reflects on Record-Setting MLB Rookie Season

Taipei:Detroit Tigers infielder Lee Hao-yu, back in Taiwan, shared insights into his impressive rookie season in Major League Baseball. Despite narrowly missing Shohei Ohtani's rookie-season hit total, Lee set several Taiwanese single-season MLB records, including 87 hits, 10 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 114 games played.

According to Focus Taiwan, Lee's determination was evident even in his last plate appearance of the season when frustration led him to snap his bat after not securing a final hit. Lee emphasized his desire to inspire future Taiwanese players, citing Yu Chang's influence and expressing his goal to elevate the achievements of Taiwanese athletes in the majors.

Throughout the season, Lee faced challenges, including a stint in Triple-A and limited playing time. He recounted moments of frustration in August but ultimately focused on making the most of his opportunities. His strategic preparation for facing left-handed pitchers and his "Pitbull" nickname reflected his tenacity.

Lee also enjoyed memorable experiences, such as playing in Justin Verlander's final career start and mistakenly driving into Canada. He cherished a signed defensive card from Verlander's game as a keepsake of his first MLB season.

Looking ahead, Lee's primary goal is to secure a spot on Detroit's opening day roster, with aspirations to participate in the All-Star Game. Now in Taiwan, he is eager to enjoy local cuisine and family time while maintaining his offseason training regimen.
