Taipei: CPC Corp., Taiwan announced on Saturday that domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices will remain unchanged in June despite an increase in international LPG prices. Starting midnight Tuesday, prices for LPG cylinders, industrial propane, butane, propane-butane fuel mixtures, and automotive LPG will remain steady, as confirmed by CPC.
According to Focus Taiwan, the state-owned oil supplier indicated that domestic LPG prices should have increased by NT$2.8 (US$0.09) per kilogram in June due to rising shipping costs driven by tensions in the Middle East. However, CPC is aligning with government efforts to stabilize consumer prices by absorbing the price hike, aiming to alleviate financial strain on households and restaurants.
CPC reported absorbing NT$4.2 billion in losses from domestic LPG sales in the first four months of the year. The company assured that it will continue monitoring the international LPG market and will dynamically review domestic pricing.
In addition, CPC stated that prices for natural gas used by households and the service sector will also remain unchanged in June to help stabilize consumer prices and reduce pressure on families and small businesses. However, natural gas prices for industrial customers will increase by an average of 5 percent in June to reflect higher costs amid geopolitical tensions, although this increase will not fully cover CPC's costs.
From January 2021 to April 2026, CPC absorbed more than NT$140 billion in losses on natural gas sales to the industrial sector, as reported by the company.
