Nantou: A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck Nantou County in central Taiwan at 4:26 a.m. Wednesday, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). According to Focus Taiwan, the earthquake's epicenter was located in Gouxing Township, 31.2 kilometers northeast of Nantou County Hall, at a depth of 23.7 km. CWA data revealed there were no immediate reports of damage from the quake. The earthquake's intensity, which measures the actual effects of a temblor, was recorded highest in Nantou and Taichung City in central Taiwan, as well as Yunlin County in the south, where it reached a level 3 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale. The quake also measured a level 2 in parts of Miaoli County in the north, Changhua County in central Taiwan, and Chiayi City and Chiayi County in the south, as noted by the CWA.
