Hualien:Taipei: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck over 100 kilometers off the coast of eastern Taiwan at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the epicenter was located at sea, 136 kilometers east of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 13.3 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries following the earthquake. The intensity was highest in parts of Hualien, Yilan, Chiayi County, Changhua, and Yunlin, where it registered a 2 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale. In much of the rest of the country, the quake measured an intensity of 1, according to CWA data.
