Taichung: A man was arrested in Taichung early Tuesday after allegedly hitting a nurse with his car, making a U-turn, and striking her again, before fleeing the scene, local authorities said. The nurse later died.
According to Focus Taiwan, the man, surnamed Lin, was tracked down and arrested by police, who said they would refer the case to prosecutors on charges of homicide and hit-and-run and recommend that he be detained.
The Taichung Police Bureau's First Precinct reported receiving a notification of the incident at 1:10 a.m. The victim, a nurse surnamed Chen, was transported to a hospital, but efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead.
Police investigations revealed that Lin struck Chen as she was crossing the street at a crosswalk. Lin allegedly did not stop, made a U-turn, struck her again, and then drove away from the scene.
Lin was eventually located and arrested by the police. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs, according to police reports. Chen's body has been sent for an autopsy to determine further details.
