Man Referred to Prosecutors for Allegedly Filming DPP Legislator and Daughter

Taipei: A man has been referred to prosecutors following allegations of filming and confronting Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Puma Shen while he was with his daughter earlier this month, as confirmed by Taipei police on Sunday.

According to Focus Taiwan, the suspect, a 45-year-old man surnamed Lin, faces potential charges of coercion, defamation, and violations of the Child and Juvenile Welfare and Rights Protection Act. The incident reportedly took place on the evening of December 7 near the National Concert Hall. During a walk and bike ride with his daughter, Shen was allegedly approached by Lin, who used a mobile phone flashlight to illuminate them, filmed the encounter, and verbally confronted the lawmaker.

Shen reported the incident to the authorities, describing the encounter in a Facebook post as “precisely the darkness we must confront.” Police received the complaint on December 8 and forwarded the case to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office the following day. Surveillance footage and EasyCard transit records helped officers identify Lin as a resident of Zhongzheng District.

Lin presented himself for questioning on December 12, claiming he encountered Shen by chance and approached him due to dissatisfaction with current affairs.
