MOFA Welcomes US, Japan, South Korea Support for Taiwan Strait Peace

Taipei:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has expressed gratitude for the recent statement by the U.S. Department of State, which emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Republic of China (Taiwan), the statement was issued following a trilateral meeting involving U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Toshimitsu Motegi, and South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun at the G20 foreign ministers' meeting held in Atlanta.

The statement highlighted concerns raised by Rubio about China's attempts to exert control over the South China Sea, its coercive actions in the East China Sea and Yellow Sea, as well as the cooperation between Russia and China, which poses a threat to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed appreciation to the U.S., Japan, and South Korea for their stance and urged other partner nations to take concrete steps in maintaining regional peace and stability.

The MOFA also noted that the foreign ministers of the three countries have repeatedly emphasized the significance of cross-strait peace and stability throughout the year, underlining the Taiwan Strait's critical role in regional security and its prioritization by the international community.

In response to increasing military threats and grey-zone tactics by China, the MOFA stated that Taiwan will continue to bolster its cooperation with the U.S. and other like-minded nations to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
