Taipei: The newly inaugurated Sanying Line in New Taipei will remain free for passengers throughout August and will also see an extension in its operating hours as part of its ongoing trial operations, announced New Taipei Metro Corp. on Thursday. The line, which opened on June 30, has already facilitated over 900,000 passenger trips.
According to Focus Taiwan, the metro line will adjust its operating schedule from its initial hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in July, to an expanded schedule from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting in August. This change is aimed at accommodating more passengers and evaluating the line's efficiency during varied times of the day.
The company also plans to increase train frequency during peak weekday hours. Trains will now arrive every six minutes between 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. At other times on weekdays and throughout the weekend, trains will continue to operate with eight-minute intervals. Additional trains may be introduced if stations experience overcrowding.
New Taipei Metro Corp. stated that the extension of operating hours is a strategic move to assess the line's performance and system stability comprehensively. The company has committed to announcing a date for full-day commercial operations once the operating conditions are validated and service quality meets the necessary standards.
