Taipei: This autumn's first northeasterly wind system is set to pass over Taiwan from Wednesday through Friday, bringing scattered rain showers to much of the country, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Wang Pin-hsiang indicated that Taiwan would experience mostly cloudy to clear weather on Tuesday, except for possible localized showers in some mountainous and coastal areas. However, beginning Wednesday, the arrival of the northeasterly wind system is expected to bring scattered showers particularly to the east and areas north of Taoyuan.
Wang highlighted that during this period, brief scattered showers might also occur in the south and mountainous regions, with slightly cooler nighttime and early morning temperatures anticipated in the northeast due to the windward positioning.
On Friday, Wang warned of a potential increase in atmospheric moisture, leading to the possibility of heavy rains in Keelung, along the north coast, as well as in Yilan and Hualien. Although the wind system is predicted to weaken by Saturday, moist air from the south could move northward, affecting a broader area of the country with rain.
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday includes scattered rain showers in Greater Taipei and eastern Taiwan, while isolated showers remain possible in the southern regions. Throughout the week, slightly cooler overnight and early morning temperatures are expected, with lows ranging from 22-25 degrees Celsius nationwide. Daytime temperatures are projected to reach 30-33 degrees in the western half of Taiwan and 28-30 degrees in the eastern regions.
