Ms. Manop Jareonsri, Deputy Minister of Transport, revealed that from the fire incident on the passenger ship Flamingo Lady 2 at 11:00 a.m. on October 3, 2024, the incident was caused by an engine failure, resulting in sparks that caused an explosion. The ship's controller, Mr. Charoon Rungsamut, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Thalang Hospital in Phuket Province. The latest order is to set up a committee to inquire into all the facts and to continuously report on the situation, as well as assess the damage that has occurred. In addition, it has been ordered to suspend the license to use the said ship and thoroughly investigate t he status of the license renewal. If it is found that it has not been renewed, the highest level of legal action will be taken. He also ordered to increase strict measures to control water safety and all types of passenger boats, including boat drivers who must be strict about safety and must not be negligent at all. He also emphasized to boat operators and machinery operators that they must strictly follow the prescribed laws. If any illegal acts are found, they can be immediately reported to the authorities for further legal action. Ms. Manop continued that she had also ordered the Marine Department (MD) to inspect all types of passenger boats to ensure that all boats are utmost safe. She had also instructed the MD to warn passenger boat operators to closely monitor the safety of passengers and crew, and to periodically inspect engine systems and safety measures to prevent repeated accidents.
