Chiang Mai, Pol. Lt. Col. Aiew, who is involved in a call center, admitted to supervising the installation of a SIM BOX in his stepdaughter's rented room, but claimed he did not know how it worked. He also denied receiving the 80,000 baht fee, as his stepdaughter had alleged. The police are preparing to take him into custody tomorrow (July 21). Progress in the case of Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit, the administrative officer of a police station in Chiang Mai Province, who was involved in a call center gang. He was arrested yesterday (July 19) at a temple in Ngao District, Lampang Province, while he was fleeing to become a monk. The charges were 'jointly making, possessing, using, importing, exporting, or buying and selling radio communication equipment without permission, jointly setting up a radio communication station without permission, and jointly using radio frequencies to conduct telecommunications business.' At that time, Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit was on leave. When he found out that there was an arrest warrant, h e contacted to turn himself in on Monday, July 22. However, the officers did not wait and arrested him while he was still wearing his saffron robes and took him to Chang Phueak Police Station for prosecution. Today, Pol. Maj. Gen. Weerachon Boonthawi, Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, traveled to Chang Phueak Police Station to personally interrogate Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit. Pol. Maj. Gen. Weerachon revealed that the arrest of Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit this time was a result of the arrest of his adopted son, who is the son of his new wife, whose girlfriend is a tomboy in Myanmar. He contacted to install SIM BOX devices in 3 rented rooms in the Eua-Athorn Village in Chiang Mai city, so that a call center gang based in a neighboring country could use the phones to deceive victims in Chiang Mai. Officers arrested him and seized 12 SIM BOX devices. From the investigation, Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit went to stay in his stepdaughter's room, which was used to store SIM BOX equipment. From today's interrogation, he admitted to overseeing the installation, but claimed that he did not know how the equipment worked. Meanwhile, the police have clear evidence, including CCTV footage showing a meeting between the employer and Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit's stepdaughter's group in Phayao Province before distributing SIM BOX equipment to rented rooms at the end of May. The group of suspects planned to distribute SIM BOX equipment to rented rooms in Chiang Mai city, totaling 40 units. Each unit can convert 32 telephone channels or can be used to call up to 1,280 numbers simultaneously. It can call to convert the signal to cover the entire area, which will receive a total wage of 200,000 baht per month. The first group of suspects said that they had already received 80,000 baht, and the stepdaughter clearly testified that some was given to Pol. Lt. Col. Bandit, but he denied receiving the money, but admitted to going up to oversee the installation in his stepdaughter's room himself. And from the investigation, it was found that there ar e still at least 2 people in this network who will have arrest warrants issued, and there is a call center gang leader in a neighboring country. However, tomorrow (21 July), the officers will take them to the court to request a detention order. Currently, the investigators are urgently questioning them. If they cooperate well, they will not object to bail. Tonight, they will still be detained at Chang Phueak Police Station for another night. For SIM BOX, it is a tool that call center gangs use to call victims. It is a phone signal converter that inserts a SIM card. One device can convert 32 phone signal channels or can be used to call up to 1,280 numbers simultaneously. It is a way to illegally use it as a communication channel that can reach the general public in the country. Source: Thai News Agency
