Prosecutors Seek Detention of Suspect in Taipei MRT Knife Attack.

Taipei: The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office has taken legal steps to detain a woman accused of attacking a senior high school student with a utility knife on a Taipei Metro train. The incident, which occurred late Friday, has prompted concerns over public safety on the metro system. According to Focus Taiwan, the attack took place near the MRT Xinpu Station at approximately 10:17 p.m. The suspect, identified only by her surname Wang and reportedly in her early 40s, was subdued by four male passengers before police arrived. One of these passengers was an off-duty Taipei police officer. The injured student sustained a 3-centimeter cut on his face and was transported to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment and is currently in stable condition. The 17-year-old victim stated that he did not know Wang, and his family has since requested that she be charged with attempted murder. Social media posts from witnesses described the chaotic scene on the train, likening it to a "zombie movie" with passengers screaming and scrambling to safety. According to Chinese-language newspaper United Daily News, Wang is a repeat offender with a history of altercations at MRT stations. The newspaper reports that she may suffer from auditory hallucinations and allegedly attacked the student under the belief that he had spoken negatively about her.
