Puma Shen Conducts First Taipei Campaign Motorcade as Debate Talks Continue

Taipei:Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Puma Shen held his inaugural campaign motorcade in Taipei on Sunday, attracting thousands of supporters, while current Kuomintang (KMT) Mayor Chiang Wan-an called for coordination on televised election debates.

According to Focus Taiwan, the motorcade began in the Datong District and was accompanied by many supporters on scooters carrying campaign banners. Shen visited Dalongdong Baoan Temple, where he was warmly received by local residents.

Shen has proposed holding four debates, arguing that a single event would not permit sufficient discussion of policy issues. His campaign intends to send representatives to a coordination meeting on Monday.

Mayor Chiang, speaking at an event earlier on Sunday, emphasized the importance of conducting debates rather than merely discussing them as campaign strategies. Both camps have agreed in principle to have broadcaster TVBS host the debates, with details to be finalized in Monday's meeting.

Taiwan's 2026 local elections, scheduled for November 28, involve voters across 22 cities and counties selecting candidates for nine different local government positions, including city mayors and councilors. The elections will fill a total of 11,051 official roles.
