Taipei: Taiwan is expected to see significant rainfall beginning Friday, with unsettled weather likely to persist through next week due to a stationary front and southwesterly winds, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Tuesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Huang En-hung indicated that weather conditions will remain relatively stable through Thursday, although isolated afternoon thunderstorms are possible in mountainous areas and parts of northern Taiwan. Temperatures are expected to remain high through Thursday, exceeding 36 degrees Celsius in some areas, before easing slightly as rainfall becomes more widespread.
Rainfall is forecast to increase Friday as a low-pressure system approaches Taiwan, bringing abundant moisture and triggering localized showers and thunderstorms across the country. Western Taiwan and southeastern areas could see localized heavy rain on Friday. Rainfall is expected to ease somewhat on Saturday, though scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible in western Taiwan and mountainous regions.
Unstable weather is expected to continue Sunday under the influence of the low-pressure system, with scattered showers and thunderstorms forecast for central and southern Taiwan, and isolated afternoon thunderstorms elsewhere. Looking ahead, rainy conditions are likely to persist throughout next week.
Beginning June 8, an approaching weather front and southwesterly winds are likely to bring intermittent showers and thunderstorms to western Taiwan and Yilan County, while localized heavy rain remains possible in mountainous areas. Rainfall could intensify further from June 9 as a stationary front combines with the southwesterly winds.
