Red Panda Chi-Chi Thrives in New Singapore Zoo Habitat

Siena:A male red panda named Chi-Chi from Taipei Zoo is adapting well to his new environment at the Singapore Zoo, as reported by a keeper on Monday.

According to Focus Taiwan, Chi-Chi initially appeared uncertain in his new surroundings but has since settled in comfortably. Jonathan Hong, a keeper with Mandai Wildlife Group, which manages the Singapore Zoo, mentioned that Chi-Chi is now lively around visitors and in good physical condition.

Chi-Chi is known to explore his enclosure in the morning and around noon, spending afternoons with his keepers. Visitors have the opportunity to see him closely, especially during feeding times when he enjoys treats like apples.

Chi-Chi, who is 10 years old, became a star attraction following media coverage of his arrival. David, a British expatriate in Singapore, shared that he brought his family to see Chi-Chi due to this publicity.

The red panda was transferred to Singapore Zoo in June, as part of a collaboration between the two zoos aimed at supporting the captive population and genetic diversity of this endangered species in Southeast Asia, through conservation efforts outside the wild. Chi-Chi is the offspring of red pandas Huan-Huan and Ya-Ya from Taipei Zoo.
