Repatriated Taiwanese Blogger Released on Bail, Faces Travel Restrictions

Taipei: Taiwanese blogger Lady Nai Nai (???), who was repatriated to Taiwan after spending six years in Canada evading fraud charges, was released on bail Thursday night with travel and residence restrictions. She has also been placed under electronic monitoring.

According to Focus Taiwan, the influencer, whose real name is Su Chen Tuan, returned to Taiwan on Thursday. After being questioned by prosecutors, she was released on NT$2 million (US$155,676) bail. Despite prosecutors' strong suspicion that Su Chen committed fraud and posed a flight risk, they decided not to detain her, as she voluntarily turned herself in to Taiwanese authorities.

Su Chen's legal troubles began in 2018 when she, her then-boyfriend Huang Po-chien (???), and his father Huang Li-hsiung (???) were investigated for fraud after their beauty clinic abruptly closed, leaving behind substantial debts. Prosecutors allege that Su Chen leveraged her popularity to secure up to NT$100 million in public investments for the clinic before its closure.

The trio fled to Canada via the United States in November 2018, and were subsequently listed as wanted for suspected fraud in January 2019. Su Chen recently expressed her willingness to return to Taiwan and cooperate with the investigation, maintaining her innocence and denying involvement in the clinic's operations or any illegal activities.

Huang Li-hsiung returned to Taiwan in 2024 and was subjected to similar restrictions as Su Chen while the investigation continues. Su Chen gained fame in the early 2000s through her blog "Lady Nai Nai," where she shared insights into her relationship with Huang Po-chien and personal reflections on everyday life. Before closing in 2013, her blog had garnered over 46 million views, and by 2017, her Facebook page had attracted more than 300,000 followers.
