Reservists’ group urges immediate halt to N. Korean troop dispatch to Russia

A reservists' group on Monday called on Russia to immediately halt the dispatch of North Korean soldiers to support its ongoing war against Ukraine. The Korean Veterans Association issued the call during a rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Seoul, as North Korea is believed to have sent its soldiers to Russia for possible deployment to the war in Ukraine. The group accused Russia of using North Korean troops as "cannon fodder" to pay "the price of their lives" into North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's vault. The participants denounced the troop dispatch as an "extremely senseless move" that undermines the 34-year friendship between South Korea and Russia, warning that it could even escalate toward a world war. "Responsibility for any unfortunate situations lies entirely with the Russian government," the group said, demanding Russia immediately halt the North Korean troop dispatch in order to establish peace in the region and around the world. Shin Sang-tae, the group's chairman, also voiced concerns t hat the dispatch of North Korean troops to support Russia's war efforts constitutes an "earthshaking" incident that could fundamentally alter the security dynamics on the Korean Peninsula.
