Seoul to launch ferry shuttle service on Han River in March

A ferry shuttle service will begin operation in March, linking major points along the Han River during busy rush hours, Seoul city officials said Tuesday. The city government had initially planned to begin the service in October but postponed the launch due to delayed approval procedures for ferry batteries and other construction delays, officials said. Under the service, officially named "Hangang Bus," eight ferries will operate between seven major points on the river during morning and evening rush hours, including Yeouido, Mangwon and Ttukseom on the northern shore of the river, as well as Jamsil and Magok on the southern shore. The ferries will run every 15 minutes, averaging 68 trips per weekday and 48 trips per weekend, with a maximum capacity of 199 passengers. From October through February, the city will conduct pilot operations involving ferries, river docks, travel routes, the central control system and the workforce to ensure the service's safety. In February, the city will also invite citize ns to board the ferries during a free service simulation to be conducted according to the actual service plan, the city officials said.
