Singaporean Tourist Dies Days After Taichung Bus Accident

Taipei: A Singaporean woman died of her injuries Friday after being struck by a bus while crossing a road in Taichung on Wednesday, the hospital where she was being treated said. According to Focus Taiwan, the incident occurred at the intersection of Ziyou Road and Minsheng Road in the city's West District. The woman was hit by a Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport bus driven by a 45-year-old man surnamed Gong at around 11:11 a.m. Wednesday. The bus struck the woman in a crosswalk while making a right turn onto Ziyou Road. She became trapped under the bus' front right tire and was freed by police and paramedics. The woman suffered a pelvic fracture and open fractures to her right upper arm and left lower limb and went into out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Her vital signs were subsequently restored as she was taken to China Medical University Hospital, but she was pronounced dead on Friday. The Taichung City Police Department's First Precinct stated that the woman was visiting Taiwan with eight family members w hen the accident took place. The bus driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. Police have indicated they will ask prosecutors to conduct an autopsy and investigate the case as a possible negligent homicide.
