Taichung Arena Progresses Steadily Towards 2030 Completion

Taichung:The Taichung Arena is currently nearly 20 percent complete and is on schedule for a 2030 completion, According to Taichung City government.

According to Focus Taiwan, the construction project was initially planned to be 15 percent complete by now. With the conclusion of underground excavation, the construction is now advancing into the main structural phase, as stated by the city's Construction Bureau.

Situated in Taichung's Beitun District, the arena is a collaboration between Japanese and Taiwanese architects. Construction commenced on June 1, 2024, after extensive planning. The 6.95-hectare complex will feature four basement levels, a four-story main arena, and a three-story secondary arena.

The main arena will have a seating capacity of approximately 15,500, while the secondary arena will accommodate about 3,000 spectators. The main arena is set to host international sports events, concerts, exhibitions, and other large-scale activities. The secondary arena will serve for athletes' warm-ups, training, and smaller events.

Sustainability is integral to the complex's design, incorporating acoustic design, rainwater recycling, and energy-saving features. An elevated open-air walkway will connect the two venues, offering walking and running paths, along with a planned rooftop garden.

The Taichung City government aims for the project to fulfill central Taiwan's need for a substantial indoor sports and entertainment venue, complementing existing facilities in the north and south of the island.

The Taichung Arena is distinct from the proposed Taiwan Dome, a larger indoor baseball stadium. The city recently signed a build-operate-transfer agreement for the dome, which will seat at least 45,000 people and include commercial spaces, hotels, and facilities for major events.
