Taipei: The Taipei District Court has ordered the release of former Taiwan People’s Party Chairman Ko Wen-je on NT$70 million (US$2.29 million) bail. This decision comes in the wake of a bribery hearing where Ko reportedly broke down while appealing for his bail.
According to Focus Taiwan, Ko, along with Taipei City Councilor Ying Hsiao-wei, who was granted NT$30 million bail, must adhere to strict conditions upon their release. Both individuals are required to remain at registered addresses, wear GPS-equipped devices, and are prohibited from leaving the country.
Ko and Ying have been indicted in the Core Pacific City case. As part of their bail conditions, they are also barred from contacting other defendants or witnesses involved in the case.
