Hsinchu city: The 2025 Taipei Summer Festival, held in the city’s historic Dadaocheng area, concluded on Saturday with a breathtaking eight-minute fireworks display. The event drew an impressive crowd of over 146,000 spectators, surpassing last year’s attendance of 130,000.
According to Focus Taiwan, the crowds began gathering at Dadaocheng Wharf and Yanping Riverside Park around 6 p.m. By 7 p.m., the area was filled with eager visitors anticipating the festival’s grand finale at 8 p.m. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an addressed the crowd before the show, highlighting the theme “Love Comes at the Right Time” and encouraging couples to express their feelings, coinciding with the Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day.
The Taipei Department of Information and Tourism reported that the fireworks display featured the debut of the “Chengcai Thousand-Wheel” effect, along with patterns such as golden crowns, silver willows, blooming peonies, blue bursts, and red heart motifs. By 9 p.m., the crowd exceeded 146,000 people, highlighting the growing popularity of the festival.
Despite the large attendance, the event proceeded smoothly. Traffic restrictions were lifted at 9:15 p.m., although a minor incident occurred when a car owner expressed frustration outside the Danshui No. 3 Water Gate shortly before 9 p.m. Police quickly resolved the situation without any conflict, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of festival-goers.
The annual Dadaocheng summer event commenced on Aug. 6, featuring not only the spectacular fireworks displays on the opening day and subsequent dates but also five musical performances, making it a vibrant and memorable celebration for attendees.
