Taipei: Taipei Zoo, a prominent tourist destination in the city, will be temporarily closed from June 18 to June 27 for its annual maintenance activities.
According to Focus Taiwan, the zoo's statement on Friday highlighted that the maintenance work will encompass updates and repairs to both indoor and outdoor animal enclosures, along with tree trimming and building cleaning. Specific upgrades include enhancing the anti-slip flooring in the king penguin exhibit, redesigning the red-crowned cranes' habitat, and renovating perches for siamangs, macaws, and toucans in the Tropical Rainforest Area.
Additionally, the zoo plans to clean building exteriors, repair signage and rest areas, resurface roads, maintain boardwalks, and clear drainage systems. These efforts are part of preparations ahead of the typhoon season. Since 2019, Taipei Zoo has implemented a 10-day closure each June to conduct thorough maintenance, aiming to expedite repairs and minimize disruptions for the animals before the summer break.
The zoo also announced plans for staff training to enhance animal care, service quality, and the visitor experience. Taipei Zoo continues to be a leading tourist attraction in the city, having attracted over 3 million visitors in 2023 and 2.6 million in 2024, as per government data.
