Taipei: Taipei Fubon Braves shooting guard Lin Chih-chieh, known as the greatest player in Taiwanese basketball history, has announced his decision to retire following the 2025-26 P.LEAGUE+ (PLG) season. The decision was revealed during a media event for the new season, with Lin’s retirement series scheduled at the Taipei Dome on April 11 and April 12, 2026, during the team’s final two home games.
According to Focus Taiwan, Lin expressed his intention to retire last season quietly but chose to continue playing, expressing gratitude to the franchise. He mentioned experiencing a decline in form, contributing to his decision to retire after this season. Lin, who will turn 44 on June 11, began his career in 2001 with Taiwan Beer in the Super Basketball League (SBL) before joining the Zhejiang Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in 2009. He returned to Taiwan to play for the Braves in 2019.
Lin’s career highlights include two SBL titles and three PLG championships from 2021 to 2023. He was part of the national team at the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, where the team finished fourth, marking the country’s best result since 2000. Braves head coach Roger Hsu emphasized the franchise’s efforts to ensure Lin retires in a manner befitting his contributions and achievements.
Lin sustained a left wrist injury during Game 7 of the PLG Finals in June and is yet to fully recover. He has a medical appointment on Oct. 17 to determine his next steps. Coach Hsu noted Lin’s unlikelihood of playing in the Braves’ season opener against the reigning champions Taoyuan Pauian Pilots on Oct. 26. However, if Lin maintains his health, he will continue playing for the Braves throughout the season.
In the 2025-26 season, the Braves are scheduled to play 24 PLG regular-season games and at least six games in the East Asia Super League (EASL).
