Taiwan Commits US$1 Million to APEC Initiatives: Envoy.

TAIPEI: Taiwan has pledged a donation of US$1 million to support Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) initiatives, as announced by Taiwan's envoy to the bloc's annual summit, Lin Hsin-i, during a news conference held in Taipei on Wednesday. According to Focus Taiwan, Lin announced the donation on behalf of the Taiwanese government during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru, which took place from November 15-16. The funds are aimed at supporting APEC initiatives focusing on human security, digital innovation, and women's economic empowerment, underscoring Taiwan's commitment to contributing to global development and playing an active role in the international community. Lin, who also serves as the chairman of Taiwania Capital Management Corp. and a senior adviser to President Lai Ching-te, emphasized the significance of this donation. He took the opportunity at the summit to highlight Taiwan's achievements in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital health, and semiconductors in discus sions with other APEC members. Due to pressure from China, Taiwan, despite being a full member of APEC, is required to send special envoys to the annual leaders' meeting instead of its president. Lin was appointed by President Lai Ching-te to represent Taiwan at the summit. The delegation, which included National Development Council head Liu Chin-ching and Taiwan's top trade negotiator Yang Jen-ni, returned to Taiwan on Tuesday after a weeklong visit to South America.
