Taiwan Expands e-Gate Access to New Zealand Passport Holders

Taipei: Taiwan will open its Automated Immigration Clearance (e-Gate) system to New Zealand biometric passport holders starting Saturday, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) announced Thursday. The decision follows New Zealand's move to extend the same access to Taiwanese travelers on October 13.

According to Focus Taiwan, eligible travelers from New Zealand, aged 12 or above, must be at least 120 centimeters tall and possess a biometric passport valid for at least six months to use Taiwan's 121 installed e-Gates. This new measure applies to individuals entering Taiwan for leisure, business, or study purposes.

Travelers must also complete the online Taiwan Arrival Card before entry, as the use of paper arrival cards was discontinued on October 1, the agency stated. This initiative marks New Zealand as the eighth country to provide e-Gate access to Taiwanese passport holders, joining South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States. Taiwan's policy is to extend automated clearance on a reciprocal basis with these nations.
