Taipei:The Taiwan High Court has upheld a life sentence along with a lifetime deprivation of civil rights for a man convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her 19 times in public.
According to Focus Taiwan, the court's decision confirmed the earlier verdict by the Shihlin District Court, which found Su Shih-hsin guilty of homicide. The ruling remains open to appeal.
The district court's findings revealed that Su repeatedly injured his ex-girlfriend, identified by her surname Tsai, after she ended their relationship. On November 25, 2024, Su confronted Tsai at her workplace. Following an argument on the street, Su used a switchblade to stab Tsai multiple times in the chest and abdomen against a wall.
As Tsai attempted to escape and called for help, Su continued the attack by stabbing her in the back. In total, Su inflicted 19 stab wounds on Tsai before stabbing himself in the chest. A passerby intervened by throwing a traffic cone at Su, disarming him, while other bystanders prevented him from retrieving the weapon. Police arrested Su at the scene based on eyewitness accounts.
Despite receiving medical treatment, Tsai succumbed to her injuries later that evening. The court concluded that Su had intentionally executed a violent assault on Tsai with a deadly weapon, dismissing his claims of lacking intent to kill and being unaware of the potential fatal outcome of his actions.
