Taiwan Lottery to increase Lunar New Year prizes by NT$800 million

Taipei, Taiwan Lottery Co. said Wednesday that will offer more and bigger prizes than usual over the Lunar New Year holiday period, with the additional amount for the various draws totaling NT$800 million (US$26.4 million).

The special draws for the Lunar New Year will begin Jan. 28 when NT$200 million will be added to the Power Lottery, the company said. The jackpot is expected to be around NT$250 million at that time, it said.

In the Grand Lottery 6/49, which is usually held twice a week, drawings will be held daily from Feb. 1 to 10, the company said.

Between Feb. 1 and 5, there will be special draws of nine numbers for a NT$1 million prize that will go to ticket holders who picked six of the nine numbers, the lottery company said, adding that it will hold 360 such draws over the five-day period. Usually, only six numbers are drawn in the 6/49 game.

Taiwan Lottery said it will also increase the prizes in its Bingo Bingo games from Jan. 28 to Feb. 12.
