Taiwan Secures Silver Medals in Kurash and Weightlifting at Asian Games

Nagoya:Taiwan's Lee Wan-ting and Chen Wen-huei both claimed silver medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking notable achievements in kurash and weightlifting. According to Focus Taiwan, Lee Wan-ting, aged 33, earned Taiwan's first silver in kurash after being defeated 3-0 by Uzbekistan's Ibodatkhon Agojonova in the women's 57-kilogram category. Kurash, originating from Central Asia, is a martial art emphasizing throwing techniques without ground combat, as per Asian Games organizers. Lee, recognized as the Best Female Player by the International Kurash Association in 2024, began her martial arts journey with judo before transitioning to kurash during her college years. Despite not reaching the semifinals in the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, Lee's performance this year was a significant improvement. Lee's teammate, Wang Ping-chun, secured a bronze medal in the same kurash event after being bested by Lee in the semifinals with a score of 10-0. In the weightlifting arena, Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Chen Wen-huei lifted a total of 232 kg in the women's 69-kilogram category, comprising 106 kg in the snatch and 126 kg in the clean and jerk. North Korea's Song Kuk-hyang dominated the event with a combined lift of 273 kg to take the gold. As of Sunday afternoon, Taiwan, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, had accumulated a total of 27 medals, including two gold, seven silver, and 18 bronze.
