Taipei: Taiwan will see a return to typical summer conditions in the coming week, following recent heavy rains. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has forecast temperatures reaching up to 36 degrees Celsius in Greater Taipei and eastern Taiwan.
According to Focus Taiwan, CWA forecaster Huang En-hung indicated that moisture levels will be relatively low, resulting in predominantly sunny weather accompanied by afternoon thunderstorms. Localized showers and thunderstorms are anticipated on Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly in mountainous regions and across central and northern Taiwan. The possibility of heavier rain exists in the northern and central mountains on Tuesday.
The weather is expected to stabilize from Thursday through Saturday, with afternoon showers mostly limited to mountainous areas. Moisture levels are predicted to rise slightly on July 6-7, which could lead to an increased chance of afternoon thunderstorms in central and northern Taiwan and mountainous areas nationwide.
Temperatures throughout Taiwan are expected to range between 32 to 35 degrees this week, with the possibility of exceeding 36 degrees in the Taipei Basin, central and southern mountainous areas, and the East Rift Valley.
The CWA is closely monitoring two tropical disturbances in the western Pacific. One system, located southeast of the Philippines, is expected to cross into the South China Sea midweek but is not anticipated to significantly strengthen or directly impact Taiwan. As it moves north towards Guangdong around July 6-7, it could cause a slight increase in moisture over Taiwan.
The second disturbance, situated southeast of Guam, might develop into a tropical depression over the weekend, potentially becoming Tropical Storm Bavi, the ninth named storm of the 2026 Pacific typhoon season. Current projections suggest it will move westward before turning north towards waters south of Japan, remaining too distant to directly impact Taiwan, as per the CWA.
