Taipei: High temperatures are set to reach up to 31 degrees Celsius across Taiwan this Sunday as northeasterly winds diminish, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). However, a new weather front is predicted to bring cooler and wetter conditions starting Monday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA forecasts that daytime highs on Sunday will range from 27 to 31 degrees Celsius across Taiwan, with southern mountainous areas potentially experiencing temperatures of 33 to 34 degrees. Sporadic showers are expected in Keelung and Taiwan’s north coast, as well as in Yilan in the northeast and Hualien in the east, while the rest of the country will mostly enjoy cloudy to sunny skies, with possible brief showers in mountainous regions during the afternoon.
In the outlying counties, temperatures are expected to vary between 22 to 27 degrees in Penghu, 18 to 26 degrees in Kinmen, and 17 to 23 degrees on the Matsu Islands, as per the CWA. The agency has also issued a warning regarding poor visibility due to fog and low clouds in central and northern Taiwan from Sunday night to early Monday morning, which could impact traffic.
The CWA indicated that as another weather front arrives on Monday, strengthened northeasterly winds will bring sporadic showers and thunderstorms to central and northern parts of western Taiwan, the eastern half of the island, and the southern Hengchun Peninsula. The onset of these winds will also cause a 3-5 degree drop in temperatures in northern and northeastern Taiwan on Monday and Tuesday.
Conditions are expected to change again on Wednesday as weakening northeasterly winds will lead to a rise in temperatures and predominantly cloudy to sunny skies in most regions of Taiwan. Scattered showers will remain likely in the eastern half, the Hengchun Peninsula, and the western mountainous areas during the afternoon.
The CWA forecast suggests that similar weather patterns will persist from Thursday to Saturday.
