Seattle:Taiwanese-American outfielder Stuart Fairchild, known for his performance in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) earlier this year, is set to visit Taiwan in November, as announced by his representatives.
According to Focus Taiwan, Fairchild's agency, GSI Agency, shared on Instagram that this visit will allow him to experience the enthusiasm of Taiwanese fans firsthand. While specific details about his trip have yet to be disclosed, the agency emphasized Fairchild's appreciation for the support he has received from fans in Taiwan.
Fairchild, who played for Taiwan in the WBC due to his Taiwanese heritage, hit a grand slam against the Czech Republic and a key two-run homer against South Korea, contributing significantly to Taiwan's victories in those games. Despite the team's elimination in the group stage, Fairchild emerged as a leading player with a .250 batting average, two home runs, six RBIs, and three stolen bases.
During his visit, Fairchild will also be awarded a Taiwan Employment Gold Card at a public ceremony. The National Development Council (NDC) had announced plans for this honor in August, with the card offering various benefits like an open work permit and resident visa, aiding foreign professionals in Taiwan.
Fairchild, originally from Seattle, began his Major League Baseball career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021 and has played for several teams since. This season, he played briefly for the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners, concluding with a .158 batting average.
