Taiwanese Duo Clinches Men’s Doubles Title at Vietnam Badminton Open

Taipei: Taiwan's Chen Zhi-ray and Lin Yu-chieh triumphed in the men's doubles final at the Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open badminton tournament on Sunday. The duo swiftly defeated their Singaporean opponents in consecutive games, concluding the match in just 27 minutes. According to Focus Taiwan, Chen and Lin bested Singapore's Terry Hee and Howin Wong during the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 100 event with scores of 21-14 and 21-12 at the Nguyen Du Club in Ho Chi Minh City. This victory marks the first BWF Tour event win for the pair since their partnership began in 2024. The 24-year-old Chen and 26-year-old Lin had previously secured top positions in three lower-level tournaments before achieving a significant runner-up finish at the BWF World Tour Super 300 US Open in June. In the final match on Sunday, Lin highlighted the challenge of maintaining strong defense as both teams vied for early leads. "We were just more patient, so we found the right moment to go on the offensive," Lin shared with CNA. Chen expressed satisfaction with their performance in the finals, noting the effective strategy executed by Lin. "Yu-chieh controlled the front and center court very well to position the shuttlecocks for me in the back court, either to go on the offensive or make returns," Chen stated. He also acknowledged their most challenging match of the tournament was the second-round encounter against fellow Taiwanese players Chen Ping-hsuan and Lee Wei-ting. Despite not being selected for Taiwan's delegation to the 2026 Asian Games in Japan's Aichi Prefecture, Chen emphasized their commitment to participating in international competitions to improve their world rankings. He aspires to break into the top 30, or even the top 25, by year's end, with upcoming events like the BWF Super 500 Clash of Clans Arctic Open in October serving as opportunities to advance.
