Taiwan’s 2025 Average Temperature Ranks 12th Highest on Record: CWA

Taipei: Taiwan’s average temperature in 2025 was recorded at 24.53 degrees Celsius as of December 28, marking it as the 12th highest since record-keeping began in 1897, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

According to Focus Taiwan, Huang Chun-hsi, director of the CWA’s Weather Forecast Center, discussed the global average temperature, which reached 14 degrees from January to November, the second-highest since 1850. This year also saw high accumulated precipitation, although the number of rainy days, 128.2, ranked as the ninth lowest since 1951. Notably, July recorded the highest monthly rainfall total since 1951, influenced significantly by Typhoon Danas.

Huang elaborated that Typhoon Danas was one of four typhoons impacting Taiwan in 2025, leading to the overflow of the Matai’an Creek barrier lake and heavy rainfall across southwestern Taiwan. While Taiwan experiences a La Ni±a episode, conditions are expected to normalize next season. From January to March, temperatures are anticipated to be warmer than usual, with precipitation ranging from normal to below average.

Huang also warned of potential short-term fluctuations in weather patterns and advised the public to remain alert to possible cold spells. Meanwhile, Wu Chien-fu, director of the CWA’s Seismological Center, reported 35,516 earthquakes in the year, with 156 being felt, aligning closely with the 10-year average. The strongest was a magnitude 7.0 earthquake offshore Yilan County.
