Hualien: Taiwan's inaugural dawn of the year 2026 will be witnessed at 6:03 a.m. on New Year's Day atop Maxishan (Mt. Maxi) in Hualien County, as announced by the Taipei Astronomical Museum on Wednesday.
According to Focus Taiwan, the earliest dawn sunlight at sea level will be visible at Eluanbi Lighthouse at 6:11 a.m. The museum highlighted that Eluanbi Lighthouse, located in Taiwan's southernmost Pingtung County, serves as a practical alternative site for observing the first dawn of 2026. This recommendation is due to Maxishan, also known as Bonan Mountain, being situated at an elevation exceeding 3,000 meters, making it challenging to access.
