Toyota Chairman Highlights Motorsport Potential in Taiwan With Corolla Cup Conclusion

Taichung: Taiwan is well-positioned to develop its own “motorsport culture,” Toyota Motor Corp. Chairman Akio Toyoda stated as the three-round Toyota GAZOO Racing Corolla Cup 2025 concluded in Taichung.

According to Focus Taiwan, Toyoda was present at the event in the central Taiwan city and expressed that the enthusiasm of the crowds at the amateur race demonstrated that Taiwanese fans have been eager for opportunities to experience such events. He suggested that Taiwan could expand beyond circuit racing to include endurance races and collaborations with top Japanese teams to compete on a global stage.

Toyoda emphasized that establishing a sustainable racing culture requires more than just car manufacturers training drivers. He highlighted the need for social support, improved infrastructure, and grassroots programs to nurture future talent. Toyoda also noted that performance data gathered on racetracks can assist carmakers in designing better-performing vehicles.

The final round of the Corolla Cup 2025 took place at the Lihpao Racing Park in Taichung’s Houli District over the weekend, concluding the series that began with earlier rounds in May and July. The event featured twelve non-professional drivers competing in a one-spec race organized by Hotai Motor Co., the distributor of Toyota vehicles in the Taiwanese market.
