Taipei: Whether either of the two tropical disturbances currently east of the Philippines will become a tropical depression may not be known until Tuesday at the earliest, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Saturday. Speaking with CNA, CWA forecaster Lee Ming-hsiang said current conditions are not in favor of the formation of a tropical depression from either of the two disturbances, but that more time is needed to observe their development. According to Focus Taiwan, the CWA had previously stated it should know by Monday whether the first tropical depression of the Western Pacific typhoon season would form from either of the two disturbances. A tropical disturbance is a tropical weather system made up of organized showers and thunderstorms that lasts for at least 24 hours and does not have closed wind circulation, according to the American Meteorological Society. Meanwhile, Lee said Taiwan is currently experiencing muggy weather conditions in the wake of a warm and wet southerly wind system, and he said such weather conditions are expected to continue over the next few days. Temperature highs are forecast to hit 34-35 degrees Celsius on Sunday and Monday, with afternoon thundershowers in the west as well as mountainous regions in the east, Lee said. Daytime temperatures are expected to move higher to 35-36 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday as an easterly wind system moves in, Lee said, but only mountainous regions should see thundershowers in the afternoon.
